From the Chapter President
Dear PMI-SWVA Members and Friends, I can't believe it is already June and my term as your Chapter President is at the half-way point. I am thrilled to serve as your Chapter President and bring my experiences as VP Marketing with me. We have started the year off strong and do not have any plans to slow down! Q1 Accomplishments - Successful PMI Audit. Thanks to Nealand Lewis, Region 5 mentor, and the Board members for spending the weekend reviewing policies and procedures and brainstorming new ideas. It was serious work - and a lot of fun! The good news is that we offer a strong program to our members, consistent with what is available in the large metropolitan areas like Charlotte, Washington DC, and Baltimore. Are you taking advantage of the offerings?
Q2 Accomplishments - Agile Seminar in Abingdon, VA. This seminar represents two firsts for us - the first time we've hosted two seminars in one year (second one planned for this Fall), and the first time we've actively marketed to our members in Southwest VA. Thank you to Cynthia West, Regional Director - Tri-cities, and her committee for a successful seminar.
- 3rd Annual Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Day, scheduled for 6/26/10. PMI-SWVA members continue to tackle Habitat's biggest challenges with enthusiasm and a big smile. Thank you to all the volunteers who turn out year after year. Looking for a good time? Join us on Saturday - all volunteers get a free logo'ed tshirt (the warm fuzzy feeling comes after you see the homeowner's smiling face).
Q3 & Q4 Plans - Project Management Symposium in Roanoke, VA. We are planning a two track symposium with multiple speakers. If you are involved in a project, you will benefit from this Professional Development Day (PDD). Stay tuned for details!
- December Dinner Meeting. This is a PMI-SWVA tradition. We have this meeting at a local hotel, with a formal sit-down dinner, and a keynote speaker. Don't miss out!
I hope you are able to take advantage of these opportunities to earn PDUs and meet project management professionals in the area. This is a great chance to expand your network - a critical life line in these tough economic times. I am looking forward to seeing you at the next event. I'd love to chat about your current project challenges to see how PMI-SWVA can help you. Regards, Melissa Melissa Kidwell, 2010 Chapter President
