"Book discussion club is a group of people who meet to discuss a book or books that they have read." (Wikipedia)
As professionals, we know that we need to continue to develop our skills and knowledge. Several of us banded together to create a small study group at work. We have been regularly meeting to discuss books that support the field of project management. Some of the books already covered include: - One Minute Manager (upcoming)
- Who Moved My Cheese
- Fish!
- Life Strategies (recommended by Jim Lewis during his "PM Survival Workshop" seminar in September 2007)
We are all chapter members and bring different backgrounds and PM experience levels to the discussion. We want to expand participation and invite interested members to join us. WIFM? - Networking - meet other PM professionals in your area
- Expand your knowledge and 'personal' tool kit for handling people.
- Remember -- Jim Lewis said "Unless you have people in your project team, you may be managing a project, but you're not a project manager." The Project Manager's Survival Workshop, Role of the Project Manager, slide 12
- Are you a certified PMP or CAPM? This is a PDU eligible activity! (Don't forgot to track & report your PDUs.)
Join Today! Send: i) your name, ii) preferred time slot for meeting (mornings, lunch, evenings), and iii) work location (Blacksburg, Roanoke, Lynchburg) to VP Marketing & Communication. Logistics Guidelines for our group (where and how often we will meet, how we will select books, etc.) will be determined based on many factors, including the number of interested members. Although we'd prefer to continue the traditional book club where members meet face-to-face, there are many types of book clubs. Other options are: - Online - using Internet forums or conference calls for geographically dispersed members
- Broadcast - discussion of a book is a regular segment on a television, radio, or podcast program (think Oprah's Book Club), where the book is announced in advance so viewers may read the book prior to the discussion
Add professional development to your goals for the summer and join today.
