Topic: Leading the Next Generation: Do You Know the Rules? On October 15, 2007, it was reported that the first Baby Boomer, born one second after midnight on January 1, 1946, filed for Social Security via the internet. This marked the beginning of what experts termed the “Silver Tsunami,” and they predicted consequences for every workplace in America. However, thanks to changed economic times, it has created a new diversity challenge -- for the first time in our history, U.S. workplaces are faced with the reality of integrating four (very) different, generations to find both productivity and high customer service outcomes. To enhance the challenge, most organizations are just now feeling like Generation X has “settled down,” and here comes Generation Y, the Millennials, with their very different set of “rules” to get work done. To tap the potential and master the challenges of this emerging workplace from both the perspectives of an employee and a customer service provider, we must first recognize what makes us different, as well as what makes us the same. This workshop provides an interactive and engaging look at the four generations, and present and discuss the tools to consider to best handle the emerging work environment.
